As Head of Marine Geoscience, I am responsible for strategic science direction, income and workforce planning. I am a Geological Geophysicist with research expertise is in the physical properties of rocks and sediments. My research interests include: seismo-acoustic, electrical and geotechnical properties of marine sediments, gassy sediments and gas hydrate-bearing sediments. Seismic and electrical properties of hydrocarbon reservoir rocks, seismic attenuation, anisotropy and carbonates; physical properties of massive sulphide deposits. Applications to: marine geohazard assessment (seafloor slope failure); impacts on global climate change (e.g., seabed methane gas venting); seabed structures, pipeline and cable route surveys; military sonar performance; hydrocarbon exploration, reservoir development, enhanced oil recovery and monitoring; geological CO2 storage; deep sea mining; acoustic properties of sea-ice.
